The Terrorists Within
Kenneth C. Wiggins
We want to believe that our government protects us, as American citizens. We want to believe that the Bill of Rights and the Constitution are our 'safe haven' against the storm of the world. We have forgotten, in two hundred years of complacency, that those very Human Rights, were recognized and affirmed, not granted and allowed. The very Preamble of the Bill of Rights, in forming this government, does charge this government with protecting us, but it also specifically guarantees our protections from that very government.
Unfortunately, we forgot to charge the government with protecting itself from itself. Power feeds on itself, as is pretty obvious, from the massive growth of government, to the simple fact that one in ten Americans now work for the government. A monster, by any standard, that has lost sight of its purpose: Public Service. We don't work for 'them' -they work for us.
Ultimately, the blame falls on our judicial system. The 'immunities' afforded not just judges but many 'public officials' relieves them of the responsibility of their position. It is common, in Lesser Courts, for judges to break the law … because they can. Those individuals, who can 'afford the law', appeal. Those who cannot, pay. The judge just continues to break the law … because he can. It has reached epidemic proportions because now the Superior Courts are 're-writing' the law too.
From Family Courts to Corporate Law, if you've got the money, you win; if you haven't got the money, you pay. Pretty simple. It's about money, and no longer about Free Speech, Due Process, Evidence, or Living in Peace and Tranquility. Money buys 'justice.'
Walk into any Family Court today and watch the New Due Process and Evidentiary Procedure at their finest. 'We say you owe us money; pay up or go to jail.' No 'evidence of debt', no evidence of an account, no cross-examination, no nothing. 'Pay up or got to jail.' Family Courts have created more 'bad dads' than they have caught, because spending money chasing them isn't good for the legal cash-flow. They rely on reasonable, responsible citizens
The IRS seizure laws: They take it, and you may or may not ever see your property again, regardless of the verdict in court. DEA property seizures are used to fund their own operations. Get caught smoking a joint and they can take your house, your car, and your life. Read the newspaper about the 'new police powers' to fight terrorism. It hasn't been very long, but already Sheriff BillyBob has made good use of it. He only has to 'suspect' you might be a terrorist; you sit in jail while he figures out 'something good' to charge you with.
While we have been making America safe, we have forgotten the true terror from within. However despicable we consider the acts of Timothy McVeigh and Usama bin Laden, they were created by and born of the failure of the American People to take control of the 'reasonable, responsible and respectable' behavior of our own government.
